Went to Matlock. Put clocks back.

Notes

Grandad noted that he went to Matlock. He did not say how he got there or who he went with. However, he had a motorbkie at this time so may well have gone on that, see Chapter 18. He probably went with my grandmother, Ethel Cirket. They were “courting” at this time and would marry in 1930, see Chapter 16. They often went boating, see Chapter 21, including in Matlock so they may have gone boating but Matlock was a popular place to visit at that time. Grandad did not specify what they did.

Grandad noted that he put the clocks back. When daylight saving was introduced in the 1920s, the change was made on the first Sunday of October provided that the Saturday was also in October. We now put the clocks back at the end of October following changes made in 1972 and again in 1995.
