
Diary Improvisation
Grandad apparently objected to the price of five-year diaries. So, he improvised using ledger books. Mum’s diaries peter out during this period and only resumed in 1975.
Health Matters
Grandad’s health seemed better during this period. The diaries cover a range of health matters relating to family and friends.
Weddings and Births
There were more weddings and births during this period. I was page boy to Carole Pacey and my adopted sister, Liz, was born in 1965.
Methodism in the Late 1960s
My family remained actively involved in the Methodist Church during the late sixties. We were involved at Mile Cross and grandma was very involved in Drayton Methodist Church.
Work, School and Houses
Although grandad had retired, he continued to have financial dealings. Mum did some duplicating and typing from home. Dad continued at the Norwich Union. Alan and I started at Kinsale Avenue School. In 1969, Tricia started at Norwich High School. During this period, we lived in Hellesdon with grandma and grandad in Drayton.
Entertainment in the Late Sixties
Family entertainment in the late sixties included birthday and Christmas celebrations, hosting visitors, days out and holidays including Butlins and hostelling in Derbyshire.
Items purchased
A wide variety of items were purchased during the late sixties rangin from tools, things for the garden and clothes.
Practical Tasks
During this time, grandad did a wide variety of practical tasks including making, repairing and maintaining things.
Transport
In terms of transport, grandad had a moped during this period and also used a bike. We had a Vauxhall Viva and later got a Vauxhall Viva Estate.
Technology in the Late Sixties
Technology in the late sixties included advances in television and introduction of small tape recorders.
