Went to Matlock Boating.

Grandad went boating in Matlock which is about 15 miles from Kirkby. He does not say how he went, or who he went with, if anyone. However, he probably went with grandma, Ethel Cirket. They were “courting” at this time and would marry in 1930, see Chapter 16.
One of the activities they particularly enjoyed was boating. In addition to Matlock, they also went boating in Belper, Hazelford Ferry and Highfields. They took grandad’s niece, Olive, and nephews, Roy and Basil, boating in Belper one at a time in June and July 1927, see Chapter 21.
