Notes
A Note on the Weather
Mum noted that it was hot. She had noted that it was hot or very hot for most of June and July. This is not surprising as 1976, is well-known for having had a very hot and dry summer, see Chapter 129.
Mum Worked for Mr Ashken and Mr Stephens
During this period, mum worked as part-time medical secretary for the private practice of two surgeons, Mr Ashken and Mr Stephens, see Chapter 121. This practice was based at 41 Newmarket Road. She worked all day on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and half day on Fridays. On this occasion, as it was Wednesdy, she worked all day. She noted that it was nice and busy.

Young Wives AGM
Young Wives was a women’s group to which mum belonged at St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church, see Chapter 124. On this occasion, it was their Annual General Meeting (AGM). Mum did the coffee with friend Heather Ferguson. I noted that mum had gone to Young Wives.

Hewett School Choir
I noted that the Hewett School Choir was leaving for Vienna the next day, see Chapter 118. I am not sure why I noted this as the choir was not something I was involved in at school! Possibly, it was because it was quite a big trip for the school and the choir. According to the local press, they were taking part in the fifth International Youth and Music Festival. They were the only British choir taking part with others from countries including Austria, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Poland, USA and West Germany.

General Studies
At this point, I was doing a sixth form induction course, see Chapter 118. I noted that we had some general studies and I described this as fairly interesting.
Football and Cricket
I noted that I played both cricket and football at lunch-time, Chapter 118. It was common for me to play football at school including at lunch-times. While I do recall playing cricket at school, it was much less common for me to play this at lunch-time.
Montreal Olympics
I noted that my friend Everard Mascarenhas was leaving for Canada soon as he was attending some of the Montreal Olympic Games, see Chapter 123, which were to start in a few days time.
