Notes

Typing and Duplicating

According to mum’s CV, see Chapter 105, she ran a typing and duplicating business from home until 1975. However, she did typing and duplicating after this date, particularly for the church, see Chapter 121. On this occasion, she noted typing and duplicating (dup) all day.

Christian Aid Collecting

R refers to me (Roger). Mum noted that she and I went, in the evening, to finish collecting for Christian (C) Aid, see Chapter 124. I noted this also and that we did it in the pouring rain.

The collecting we did was part of Christian Aid Week. This advert for that week is from 1977

Note on Weather

Mum noted that it rained on and off all day. I noted that it was pouring rain when we went collecting money for Christian Aid in the evening.

Very Tired

Mum noted that she was very tired at night. Mum complained fairly frequently of tiredness and exhaustion at this time, see Chapter 116.

Aludrox

Mum had been experiencing tummy pain for which she had sometimes taken an antacid (Aludrox), see Chapter 116. She noted that she started taking it again.

Senokot

Mum took one Senokot (S) presumably for constipation, see Chapter 116. Senokot is a senna-containing medicine for the treatment of constipation.

Swimming

I noted that. at school, see Chapter 118, we went swimming in PE.

Lost Ball

We usually played football at lunch-time at school, see Chapter 118. However, on this occasion, we could not as the ball had been lost. I am not sure if we only had one ball but presumably that was the case.

Caribbean Evening

In March 1976, when Mr Cheeseman visited mum to talk about the French trip, he had invited her to a Caribbean evening on 22 May at school, see Chapter 118. I noted that we had a meeting about this evening which I described as a sort of carnival. I noted that I was working behind the bar. At this point, I was not quite 16. I recall this evening although not much detail. I believe there might have been some kind of limbo dancing competition!

Youth Club

Tricia refers to my older sister (Patricia). She went to youth club at St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church, see Chapter 124.
