Tuesday 4 May 1976

Mum – Work all day – busy. Mr A gave me £6 gift voucher at Bonds for the work I’d done on Sharon’s project. Wrote & thanked her in the evening. Stayed at work until 6pm to finish all letters off etc. 1S.

Roger – School yet again. Played football at lunch-time. Had a French test, got 19/28 and got full marks in a Chemistry test. A group rehearsal after school, we are getting good. Went to a 1921 film put on by the German Soc at the UEA. The film was silent and all the writing was in English. That finished at ¼ past 8, got back here at 9 and watched TV.

Notes

Mum Worked for Mr Ashken and Mr Stephens

During this period, mum worked as part-time medical secretary for the private practice of two surgeons, Mr Ashken and Mr Stephens, see Chapter 121. This practice was based at 41 Newmarket Road. She worked all day on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and half day on Fridays. On this occasion, as it was Tuesday, she worked all day. She noted that it was busy and she stayed there until 6 pm to finish off all letters etc.

A Gift Voucher

Mum noted that Mr Ashken (Mr A) gave her a £6 gift voucher to use at department store Bonds. This was for the work she had done in typing his daughter Sharon’s project. Mum wrote to thank Sharon for this in the evening.

Senokot

Mum took one Senokot (S) presumably for constipation, see Chapter 116. Senokot is a senna-containing medicine for the treatment of constipation.

School

I noted that I was at school “yet again“, see Chapter 118.

Football

I also noted that I played football at lunch-time, see Chapter 118.

Tests

I was in the run-up to taking the bulk of my O levels, see Chapter 118, and I presume the tests referred to here were part of preparing for those. I noted that I scored 19/28 (68%) in a French test and got full marks in a chemistry test.

Group Rehearsal

While I was at school, I was part of a music group and was trying to learn guitar, see Chapter 118. However, I was never very good and was always on the edges of the group! On this occasion, I noted that there was a group rehearsal after school. I referred to the group as “we” and commented again that we we were getting good.

German Film

After school, I went to the UEA to see a 1921 film put on by the German Society, see Chapter 120. I don’t know what film it was but I noted that it was silent with writing in English. It finished at 8.15 pm and I was home by 9 pm.

TV

When I got home, I watched TV but I did not specify what I saw, see Chapter 122.
