Notes
Back to School
P refers to my older sister Tricia (Patricia). She started back to school after the Easter holidays. As she attended a grant-aided school and the rest of us attended state schools, it was not unusual for her to have different holiday dates from the rest of us, see Chapter 118.
Bert and Rose
Mum went to see Bert and Rose at St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church in the morning (am). I am not sure who they were or what this related to but it could have had something to do with pastoral care and/or pastoral visits, see Chapter 124.
Triogesic
Mum suffered from sinus pain at this time, see Chapter 116 and she had been given a combination of bromelain, rutoside and trypsin (Triogesic) for this. On this occasion, she noted getting another prescription for this from her GP Dr Welch (Dr W).
Work for Rev Eddy
Chairman refers to Rev G T Eddy who was the Chairman of the Methodist District. Based on her CV, see Chapter 105, mum did some part-time secretarial work for him between 1973 and 1977, see Chapter 121. On this occasion, she went there for half an hour and noted that he would be away for a few days
Shopping and Lunch
Mum went into the city with my brother Alan (A). They had lunch and mum also bought them both waterproofs for their forthcoming holiday. Mum noted that Alan’s cost £7.25 and hers £7.70. I am not sure if my younger sister Liz (E for Elizabeth) was with them. I think not. However, mum also bought her a waterproof, a skirt and a cardigan. These cost £12 altogether (altog), see Chapter 125.
Community Roll
Mum was responsible for maintaining the church’s community roll and she worked on this all evening. Mum refers to three forms of church roll. First, there was the community roll which listed everyone with a connection to the church. Second, there was a membership roll which listed everyone who had been admitted into church membership. Third, mum referred to a pastoral roll. I think this indicated those people for whom the church had some pastoral responsibility. My suspicion is that mum used the term community and pastoral roll interchangeably. It is possible, even likely, that there was one roll which indicated who were members etc., see Chapter 124.
Senokot
Mum took one Senokot (S) presumably for constipation, see Chapter 116. Senokot is a senna-containing medicine for the treatment of constipation.
School Camping Trip in France
It was the twelfth full day of our school camping trip in France, see Chapter 118.
Napoleons’ Tomb, the Louvre and Notre Dame
We got up fairly late and then went shopping. Then, we caught the metro into Paris. I went with Gary Wood , Robert (Bob) Bonwell and Susan (Sue) Marjoram to Napoleon’s tomb then after lunch went to the Louvre where we met Tim Newenham. Tim and I split from the others and went to Notre Dame. After that, we looked round the box shops on the side of the Seine and bought a picture of the Eiffel Tower.

Eiffel Tower and Montmartre at Night
Then, we caught the metro and met Val and Sarah Humphries on the way back. We had liver casserole for tea. Then, after a rest, we went for a night trip round Paris, to the fountains near the Eiffel Tower and Montmartre.
