Mum – Work all day. Circuit Mtg at night. Went with Mr Buxton. Mr R invitation. 33 for, 10 against, 8 neutral. He didn’t reply to it. Rang FR at night. 1S.
Roger – An uneventful day. I spent some of this lunch-time in the library and some in the classroom. I spent the evening watching TV. Patricia went out for about an hour, I’m not sure where. Both Alan & mum went out for the whole evening. Alan went to Boys’ Brigade and is not yet back. I arranged a career’s interview for me on Monday at 4.00pm.

Notes
Mum Worked for Mr Ashken and Mr Stephens
During this period, mum worked as part-time medical secretary for the private practice of two surgeons, Mr Ashken and Mr Stephens, see Chapter 121. This practice was based at 41 Newmarket Road. She worked all day on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and half day on Fridays. On this occasion, as it was Wednesday, she worked all day.

Circuit Meeting
Mum went to a circuit meeting with Eric Buxton. The topic, or at least one of the topics, was whether the senior Minister at St Peter’s, Rev Ream, should be invited to stay until 1979. Mum noted that there were 33 for, ten against and eight neutral. Rev Ream did not comment on this. I am not completely sure how to interpret this vote. While there was a clear majority in favour, the vote was hardly a ringing endorsement of Rev Ream’s continued ministry.
Rev Dowson
FR refers to Rev F R Dowson. Frederick Rodham Dowson entered the Methodist ministry in 1936. He was born in Haxby, York on 5 August 1912 and he died in Selsey on 4 September 2011, aged 99. I believe he was superintendent Minister for the Park Lane circuit from 1968 to 1974. He and mum were close and they spoke and corresponded frequently, see Chapter 114. On this occasion, mum rang him at night.

Senokot
Mum noted taking one Senokot (S) presumably for constipation, see Chapter 116. Senokot is a senna-containing medicine for the treatment of constipation.
Uneventful Day
I described my day as uneventful. I was at school, see Chapter 118, and noted that I spent some of lunch-time in the library and some in the classroom. The evening I spent watching TV.
Tricia, Alan and Mum Were Out
I noted that my older sister had gone out for an hour but I did not know where. Interestingly, I referred to her by her full name which I don’t recall ecer doing! I also noted that Alan and mum were out for the whole evening. I did not say anything about where mum had gone but I knew Alan had gone to Boys’ Brigade, see Chapter 124.
Career’s Interview
I noted that I had booked a career’s interview at school, see Chapter 118, for the coming Monday at 4pm. I was in the fifth form so could leave school at the end of the year if I wanted to. From memory, I think I always assumed I would stay on to sixth form. I am not sure if I had requested the interview or if it was something that was expected or required. I suspect it was more the latter.
