Work all day. I asked Roy how long he is staying “Till 8am Friday”. Then he went out before I could ask anything else. He stayed in most of the day (possibly all of it) doing work he’d brought with him. Roger is difficult again. 1T. 1S.

Notes
Mum Worked for Mr Ashken and Mr Stephens
During this period, mum worked as part-time medical secretary for the private practice of two surgeons, Mr Ashken and Mr Stephens, see Chapter 121. This practice was based at 41 Newmarket Road. She worked all day on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and half day on Fridays. On this occasion, as it was Tuesday, she worked all day.

Dad Was Staying Until Friday
Roy refers to my father Royle Drew. He had come to stay the previous day. She was reluctant about him staying but felt she had no choice, see Chapter 114. Mum asked him how long he was staying and he replied that it would be until 8am on Friday. Mum wanted to ask him more but he went out before she could. She noted that he was in most of the day, possibly all of it, doing work he had brought with him.
Difficult
Roger refers to me. Mum noted that I was “difficult again“. It is clear from the diaries that I had a difficult relationship with mum at this time and that fits my own recollections. While some of this was what I would consider normal teenage rebellion, some of it did relate directly to my interactions with dad and the level of underlying conflict there was between mum and dad.
In addition, these were not completely separate issues. There were links between my interactions with dad and issues of teenage rebellion because I felt he was more understanding of the teenage issues, e.g. not wanting to go to church, drinking, not telling my parents everything etc.
There were also issues of proximity. Because, I lived with my mum, I was more likely to have conflict with her than with my dad who I only saw periodically. Regardless of the underlying causes, I felt closer to my dad during my teenage years and blamed my mother more for their relationship breakdown, see Chapter 114.
Antidepressants
Mum had had severe struggles with her mental health, suffering with depression and anxiety, see Chapter 116. She was on antidepressants. She took one tablet of amitryptilline (Tryptizol, T) at night.
Senokot
Mum noted taking one Senokot (S) presumably for constipation. Senokot is a senna-containing medicine for the treatment of constipation.
