Notes

Morning Service

Mum attended the morning service at St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church. The service was taken by Arthur Windridge and mum noted that it was quite good, see Chapter 124.

Arthur Windridge

Arthur Windridge is mentioned a few times in mum’s diaries between 1976 and 1979. On each occasion, he came to take services and speak at St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist church, see Chapter 124. In a news cutting mum had of an open-air service in Chapelfield Gardens in July 1977, he is identified as the Minister at Wroxham Road Methodist Church in Sprowston. I found an entry for him on LinkedIn where he is described as a retired Methodist Minister in the Greater Norwich area. He is also listed as the Minister at Lessingham Methodist Church and as a Trustee of the North Norfolk Methodist Circuit. In 2008, he spoke at a dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wroxham Road church. Apparently, he was the Minister there from 1972 to 1982. Based on the Methodist Church Directory of 2004, he became a Minister in 1960.

Drayton for Tea

Mum noted going to grandma’s in Drayton for tea. This was our usual practice on Sunday afternoons, see Chapter 122.

Songs of Praise

Mum did not go to church in the evening as she stayed in to watch “Songs of Praise“. This was on BBC1 at 6.50pm and lasted 35 minutes. It came from Norwich and featured Norwich schools. My older sister Tricia (P for Patricia) appeared in it as part of a madrigal group from her school, Norwich High School for Girls, see Chapter 118. Mum thought it was good. She had a news cutting related to this broadcast in a scrapbook.

Antidepressants

Mum had had severe struggles with her mental health, suffering with depression and anxiety, see Chapter 116. She was on antidepressants. On this occasion, she took one tablet of amitryptilline (Tryptizol, T).

Senokot

Mum noted taking one Senokot (S) presumably for constipation. Senokot is a senna-containing medicine for the treatment of constipation.
