Grandad – Ethel went on the 09.15 bus to Park Lane MC, women’s work. My foot was a bit better but I was still using the wheel chair. Mr Newsom brought me 3 catheters & 3 bladder pumps.
Mum – Went to help at WW Autumn Council for coffee & lunch. Saw FR in aft & evening. Simply wonderful. Both enjoyed it immensely.

Notes
Women’s Meeting at St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church
Ethel refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. She went by bus to St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church (MC) for what grandad referred to as women’s work, see Chapter 124. It seems that this may have been the women’s work (WW) Autumn Council. Mum went there to help provide coffee and lunch. I assume it was a circuit- or district-level meeting involving multiple churches.
Grandad’s Foot
Grandad was having trouble with what he described as a “gammy” right foot, see Chapter 116. Although this was a bit better, he was still using the wheelchair.
Catheters and Bladder Pumps
At this time, grandad had an indwelling urinary catheter, see Chapter 116. I believe Mr Newsome was a friend of grandma and grandad’s through church. He brought grandad three catheters and three bladder pumps.
Rev Dowson
FR refers to Rev F R Dowson. Frederick Rodham Dowson entered the Methodist ministry in 1936. He was born in Haxby, York on 5 August 1912 and he died in Selsey on 4 September 2011, aged 99. I believe he was superintendent Minister for the Park Lane circuit from 1968 to 1974. He and mum were close and they spoke and corresponded frequently, see Chapter 114. On this occasion, mum saw him in the afternoon (aft) and evening. She described these meetings as wonderful and said that they both enjoyed them immensely.
