Grandad – E&A had a walk to the village. Ethel went to house fellowship at David Johnsons.
Mum – At church all day except for hour at lunch & tea. YW did Harvest Supper with me in charge! Charged 25p for soup, ham salad, fruit salad or apple tart & cream & tea. Made profit. Very tired at night. Feet ache. Roger went. Alan played 1st clarinet in BB Band – v good.

Grandma and Auntie Amy Went Twice to Drayton Methodist Church (DMC)
E refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. A refers to Amy Wilson, a friend of grandma and grandad’s from Mansfield, who we knew as Auntie Amy. She was visiting grandma and grandad, see Chapter 122, for the first time since her husband Tom Wilson had died earlier in the year, see Chapter 116. They had a walk to the village, that is to Drayton.
House Fellowship at David Johnson’s
Grandma also went to a house fellowship meeting at David Johnson’s. He was someone grandma knew through Drayton Methodist Church, see Chapter 124. I am not sure why Auntie Amy did not go.
Young Wives’ Harvest Supper
YW refers to Young Wives, a women’s group mum was involved in at St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church, see Chapter 124. They laid on a Harvest Supper and mum noted that she was in charge which merited an exclamation mark. Mum noted that she was at church all day apart from short breaks for meals. I assume she was involved in food preparations etc. She noted the food they provided namely soup, ham salad, fruit salad or apple tart and cream, and tea. They charged 25p for this and mum noted they made a profit. Roger refers to me and mum noted that I went which would have been very unusual for me and a bit surprising. At the end of the day, mum was very tired and her feet ached.
Clarinet
Alan refers to my younger brother. Mum noted that he played first clarinet in the Boys’ Brigade (BB) Band, see Chapter 124. I am not sure if this was part of the Harvest Supper but my impression is that it was. Mum noted that it was very good.
