Grandad – The ladies at DLM had a farewell meeting to Rev & Mrs Hayman & prestented him with 12.50. Clarrie came for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Still very hot 86FAR in the lounge. Yesterday Mr Newsome brought me 16 water bags.
Mum – Went shopping in city with Alan in am. Saw FR 3-5 & 7-10- lovely as usual. Very hot again. 90+.

Farewell to Rev & Mrs Hayman
DLM stands for Drayton Ladies’ Meeting and is how grandad referred to the weekly women’s meeting grandma attended at Drayton Methodist Church, see Chapter 124. On this occasion, they were saying farewell to Rev and Mrs Hayman. He had been Methodist Minister based at Mile Cross Methodist Church since the late sixties. I think the group presented him with a leaving gift of £12.50.
Clarence Hodgson
Clarrie refers to Clarence Hodgson. He was grandad’s friend. He came to keep grandad company, see Chapter 122, while grandma was at the women’s meeting.
Comments on Weather
Both grandad and mum commented on the weather. Grandad noted that it was still very hot and that it had again been 85°F (29.4°C) in the lounge. Mum also noted that it was very hot again and said it had been 90+ (>32.2°C).
Mr Newsome
Mr Newsome was a friend of grandma’s and grandad’s. He sometimes gave grandma lifts to church meetings, see Chapter 124. On this occasion, he had brought grandad, the previous day, a number of leg bags for use with his urinary catheter, see Chapter 116.
Shopping with Alan
Alan refers to my younger brother. He and mum went shopping in the city in the morning (am), see Chapter 125.
Rev Dowson
FR refers to Rev F R Dowson. Frederick Rodham Dowson entered the Methodist ministry in 1936. He was born in Haxby, York on 5 August 1912 and he died in Selsey on 4 September 2011, aged 99. I believe he was superintendent Minister for the Park Lane circuit from 1968 to 1974. He and mum were close and they spoke and corresponded frequently, see Chapter 114. On this occasion, mum saw Rev Dowson twice from 3-5pm and from 7-10pm. She described it as lovely as usual.
