Grandad – I did a bit in my cabin made a wooden fork & cleaned the roto mower. Ethel went to DLM.
Mum – Saw Dr W in am. Took MSU to lab. He gave me Mist Pot (Potas Citrate) to take but felt so sick – took 1 Triptizol & felt better so it must have been withdrawal symptoms. Will take 1 Trip tonight. Went to St P Guild dinner – Chinese Car Park – very nice. Gerald, Thelma, Tom, Margaret, John, Heather, Pam & me.

Grandad Did Practical Work in His Cabin
Grandad was very practical, particularly in the area of woodwork, see Chapter 126, and had a purpose-built cabin behind his house in Drayton, see Chapter 85. On this occasion, he made a wooden fork and cleaned their rotary mower. I assume this was the Qualcast electric rotary mower that they had bought in June 1973, see Chapter 108.
Grandma Went to Drayton Ladies’ Meeting (DLM)
Ethel refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. DLM refers to Drayton Ladies’ Meeting which was a weekly women’s meeting held at Drayton Methodist Church, see Chapter 124.
Mum Saw Dr Welch
Mum was not feeling well so she saw the doctor in the morning (a.m.), see Chapter 116. I believe Dr W refers to Dr Welch who was her GP. MSU refers to mid-stream urine and is a test used to diagnose urinary infections. Mist Pot (Pot Citrate) refers to potassium citrate mixture which can be used for the symptomatic treatment of cystitis.
I am not sure if mum felt sick before or after taking this but she decided to take one of her Tryptizol (amitryptilline) tablets. This made her feel better so she concluded that her symptoms were related to withdrawal of amitryptilline. This could be the case. She seemed to take amitryptilline spasmodically. I am not sure if she had been advised to do this or had just decided to do so herself.
St Peter’s Guild Dinner
St P Guild refers to St Peter’s Guld, see Chapter 124, which was a mid-week felloswhip meeting associated with St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church. On this occasion, they went for a dinner. I am not exactly sure what “Chinese Car Park” refers to but there was a Chinese restaurant in St Stephen’s Car Park. I wonder if this was what mum meant. It was known as Lucky Star but is now permanently closed.
The people who went for this meal, apart from mum, were Gerald and Thelma Cooke, Tom and Margaret Culley, John and Heather Ferguson and Pam Ludlow.
