Notes

Grandma Went to Drayton Methodist Church (DMC) Twice

Ethel refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. DMC refers to Drayton Methodist Church. She went there twice for services, in the morning and in the afternoon, see Chapter 124.

We Went to Grandma and Grandad’s for Tea as Usual

Sheila refers to my mother Sheila May Drew née Parkin. It was our usual practice to go to grandma and grandad’s for tea on Sunday afternoon, see Chapter 122. Mum noted this by saying that we went to Drayton where grandma and grandad lived.

Alan and I Took Grandad a “Trolley” for Repair Which He Had Made Us

Roger refers to me and Alan to my brother. Grandad was very “handy” particularly in terms of woodwork, see Chapter 126. He made us a variety of trollies/go karts over the years, see Chapter 85, and I assume it was one of these that needed repairing. The last one I have a record of him making, for Alan, was in April 1973, see Chapter 109. Perhaps it was this one that needed repair.

Grandad Had a Poor Day for Health

Grandad’s health continued to be poor, see Chapter 116. He noted that he had had a poor day for health.

Boys’ Brigade Parade

BB refers to Boys’ Brigade. There was a Boys’ Brigade group attached to St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church, see Chapter 124. My brother Alan was very involvedwith it although I neve was. I believe he played clarinet in their band.

Mum noted that there had been a Boys’ Brigade parade in the morning (a.m.). I assume this was at St St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church.

I am not sure if this photo (top) is of this Boys’ Brigade parade but it is certainly of one such parade taken outside the Methodist Church in Park Lane. The two photos at the bottom are of my brother Alan in his Boys’ Brigade uniform

Mum Was Asked to Take Minutes at a Church Meeting

Mr Ream was the senior Minister at St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church, see Chapter 124. Mum noted that he asked her to take minutes at the church meeting (mtg).
