Ethel & I cut to edges of the lawn at the front, also beyond the wall. We had a fire burning the cones & needles.

Notes

Ethel refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin.

Grandma and grandad had large lawns at the front and back of their house which required mowing frequently. They were surrounded by pine trees and usually the lawns had to be cleared of twigs, needles and cones before the grass could be cut. Mum, Tricia and Alan had cut the grass two days before. Grandma and grandad now trimmed the edges at the front and also cut the small patch of grass beyond their front wall. They also burned the cones and needles that had been collected from the lawns, see Chapter 109.
