Ray & I went to Wembley & London. Dept 7.29 AM Arrived home Sunday 5.30.

Notes

I believe that Ray is a reference to grandma’s brother, Ray Cirket. He is mentioned in grandad’s diary from 1922. It seems he and grandad were friends and grandad may have met grandma through Ray, see Chapter 16.

Grandad does not specify how they went to London but it seems likely they went by train. I am not sure if they stayed in London overnight or if they travelled back Saturday night/early Sunday morning.

Grandad does not specify why they went to London but the British Empire Exhibition was on during that period, running from April 1924 to October 1925. Grandad recorded going to London three times during that period, again in July and August 1924. On another of those occasions, he specified that he went to Wembley, see Chapter 18.

A later diary, in 1951, makes it clear that he did attend the British Empire Exhibition in 1924 as he comments that the Festival of Britain did not come up “to Wembley of 1924-25“, see Chapter 59.
