Arthur came & stayed while E went to the meeting. In the evening I went to see Irene’s new lounge etc.

Grandad was unwell at this time having had a stroke in early April, see Chapter 100. Based on handwriting, I think grandma mainly kept his diary for him between 24 April and 27 August. She did, however, use his voice, that is “I” refers to grandad and E or Ethel to herself. Grandad appears to have been well enough at this time to visit neighbours. Irene refers to Irene Bell who lived next-door-but-one to grandma at 164 Drayton High Road.
Arthur refers to grandad’s friend Arthur Elsegood. They used to do a lot of practical jobs together, see Chapter 109.
E refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. The meeting is a reference to what grandad called Drayton Ladies’ Meeting or DLM which was held at Drayton Methodist Church, see Chapter 107.
