Tuesday 30 April 1974

Irene came. Stayed ¾ hrs. On her way home she fell hurt her head etc. Rev Hayman had an accident on his moped. Got to have 3 days complete rest. I was a bit better. Quite a nice day. E did some gardening.

Notes

Grandad was unwell at this time having had a stroke some days earlier, see Chapter 100. The handwriting had changed a few days before and I think grandma was keeping his diary for him at this time. She did, however, use his voice, that is “I” refers to grandad and E to herself. Grandma noted that grandad was a bit better.

Irene refers to Irene Bell who lived next-door-but-one to grandma and grandad at 164 Drayton High Road. Rev Michael Hayman was a Methodist minister in Norwich from around 1968 to 1979.

E refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin.
