Thursday 25 April 1974

Barber came at night. Patricia came in the morning, cut the lawn until it rained. She went to the meeting with E. Played Chime-Bars. Finished cutting the lawn afterwards.

Notes

Grandad was unwell at this time having had a stroke some days earlier, see Chapter 100. The handwriting had changed the day before and I think grandma was keeping his diary for him at this time.

Patricia refers to my sister Patricia Jane Carrick nee Drew. Grandma and grandad had large lawns at the front and back of their house. These required frequent cutting, see Chapter 109. This became too much for grandma and grandad so one of us would do it, in this case Tricia.

E refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. The meeting grandma is referring to was a women’s meeting held at Drayton Methodist Church. Grandad always referred to it as Drayton Ladies’ Meeting or DLM, see Chapter 107. I assume the chime bars were the ones grandad had bought the previous year, see Chapter 108.
