Monday 8 April 1974

Not very well today. Ethel & other ladies went to Hethersett, fine day. Dolly came & Sheila met her.

Notes

Grandad’s diary entries at this time are particularly difficult to read. I think this reflects that he was unwell recently having had a stroke, see Chapter 100. He noted that he was not very well on this day.

Ethel refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. She was part of a women’s group which grandad referred to as Drayton Ladies’ Meeting (DLM). It was part of Drayton Methodist Church, see Chapter 107.

The last sentence is not very clear and seems to have been added later. Dolly refers to Dorothy Rose who I knew as Auntie Dolly. She was in fact grandad’s first cousin. She lived in Bedford and visited grandma and grandad often always travelling by bus, see Chapter 106. Sheila refers to my mother Sheila May Drew nee Parkin.
