Ethel went twice to DMC. Sheila & family came for tea. Sheila brought our Philips tape recorder which had been repaired by Norvic Television Co in St Benedict’s. Price £12 VAT 1.20 TOTAL 13.20. Arthur brought a one-stringed fiddle he had made for me. Cost 67p.

Ethel refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. DMC refers to Drayton Methodist Church, see Chapter 107.

Sheila refers to my mother Sheila May Drew nee Parkin. It was our practice to go to grandma and grandad’s for Sunday afternoon tea, see Chapter 106.

Mum had taken the tape recorder for repair on 4 March. Grandma and grandad had got it from Fishers of Huthwaite when they were living in Kirkby, see Chapter 84. Grandad and Arthur Elsegood had tried unsuccessfully to repair it in February 1974. So, mum took it to be repaired, see Chapter 111.

Arthur refers to grandad’s friend Arthur Elsegood. During the early seventies, Arthur and grandad made a variety of one-stringed fiddles, see Chapter 109.
