Thursday 3 January 1974

Ethel went to DLM. On account of the coal crisis, shops can only open to use electricity 3 days a week, several companies also can use only 3 days a week. Hospitals & a few others are exempted but not churches and chapels.

Notes

Ethel refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. DLM refers to Drayton Ladies’ Meeting which was held at Drayton Methodist Church, see Chapter 107.

The three-day week which grandad described was the consequence of ongoing industrial action, e.g. by miners, see Chapter 112.
