Ethel & Florrie went to Norfolk Show. Weather uncertain attendance. Arthur came, we finished the slabbing. Roger had an operation for his appendix.

Notes

Ethel refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin and Florrie refers to her friend Florrie Booth who was visiting them from Kirkby.

For details of the Royal Norfolk Show, see Chapter 106. I don’t know precisely what grandad meant by “weather uncertain attendance”. It seems likely that he was saying the weather was uncertain. I think he intended to add the attendance figure but did not.

Arthur refers to Arthur Elsegood who often helped grandad with practical tasks including laying slabs, see Chapter 109.

Roger refers to me and for more details of this illness, see Chapter 100.
