Grandad was unwell at this time having had a stroke a few days earlier, see Chapter 100. This explains why his handwriting was particularly difficult to read. He also appears to have been confused over dates as this day was the 23nd but he noted it as the 21st.
Mr and Mrs Hodson were friends of grandma and grandad’s who lived close to them in Drayton.
