Notes
Guide Service at Westminster Abbey
P refers to my older sister Tricia (Patricia). She went to what mum described as a Rangers and Guides Service in Westminster Abbey, They left Norwich at 6am and got back at 9.30pm.
Apparently, this was an annual thanksgiving service for guides and scouts held on or around Thinking Day also known as Founders Day as it was based on the Baden-Powells’s joint birthday, see Chapter 122.
My Work
R refers to me, Roger. I went to work. At that time, I had a Saturday job at The Scientific Anglian bookshop, see Chapter 119.
Clothes Shopping
E refers to my younger sister Liz (Elizabeth). She went clothes shopping in Norwich with mum. They bought two jumpers and some trousers, see Chapter 125.
Riding
E refers to my younger sister Liz (Elizabeth). She was into riding at this time, see Chapter 122. Mum noted that she went riding in the afternoon (aft).
Leaking Radiator
One of our radiators was leaking. I think mum had taken it off to decorate. Andrew Wright had put it back on for her but it then leaked. Mum had arranged for Dukes to come and they were due to come that day. I am not sure if they didn’t come but mum decided to ask Mr Claxton to do it and he said he would come on Monday, see Chapter 126.
Rev Dowson
FR refers to Rev F R Dowson. Frederick Rodham Dowson entered the Methodist ministry in 1936. He was born in Haxby, York on 5 August 1912 and he died in Selsey on 4 September 2011, aged 99. I believe he was superintendent Minister for the Park Lane circuit from 1968 to 1974. He and mum were close and they spoke and corresponded frequently, see Chapter 114. On this occasion, he rang. Mum rang back and they had a long chat.
Antidepressants
Mum had had severe struggles with her mental health, suffering with depression and anxiety, see Chapter 116. At this point, she had had a few days without taking any antidepressants but she noted that she was a bit depressed. She took one tablet of amitriptyline (Tryptizol, T) at night.
Senokot
Mum noted taking one Senokot (S) presumably for constipation, see Chapter 116. Senokot is a senna-containing medicine for the treatment of constipation.
