Notes

Washing

Mum noted doing washing in the morning (am), see Chapter 126.

Typing and Duplicating

According to mum’s CV, see Chapter 105, she ran a typing and duplicating business from home until 1975, see Chapter 121. She also did typing and duplicating for church. On this occasion, she noted that she typed and duplicated.

Conflict Between Me and Mum

Roger refers to me, E and Eliz to Liz (Elizabeth) my younger sister and Roy to my father. My recollection of this period was that there were often conflicts between mum and me, and that these were often worse at Christmas when dad was staying, see Chapter 114.

On this occasion, mum thought I was ignoring her and accused me of saying I had told her what I was going to do when she knew I had not. She also recorded an incident in which I allegedly hit Liz. Dad intervened to protect Liz but left mum to deal with me, she felt. She also felt that she failed at this as I just ignored her.

Both of these points may or may not be true as we only have mum’s version of these events. At least partially as a result of increased tensions at Christmas, I found the family part of Christmas less enjoyable as a teenager than I had as a child. However, this may also be in part that the family part of Christmas was less important to me as a teenager than it had been as a child. I still enjoyed family Christmases but other elements, e.g. time with my friends, were more important to me.

Tricia Went to a Youth Club Party

P refers to my older sister Tricia (Patricia). She went to a youth club party at night. I assume this relates to the youth club at St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church, see Chapter 124.

Slides

Mum sorted photographic slides at night, see Chapter 128. She got the viewer and slides from grandma.

Antidepressants

During this period, mum had had severe struggles with her mental health, suffering with depression and anxiety, see Chapter 116. On this opccasion, she noted feeling very depressed. She was on antidepressants. On this occasion, she took one tablet of long-acting amitryptilline (Lentizol, L).

Senokot

Mum noted taking one Senokot (S) presumably for constipation. Senokot is a senna-containing medicine for the treatment of constipation.
