Notes
Change in Handwriting
There had been a change in handwriting at the end of June. Based on this, it seems likely that this, and subsequent entries, were made by grandma even though this is not stated explicitly. If indeed, the entry was made by grandma, she refers to grandad in the first person as “I”.
Grandad Came Home
Grandad came home from hospital having been admitted a few days earlier with symptoms related to a further urinary obstruction, see Chapter 116. He had had surgery to stretch the bladder neck. This was carried out by consultant urologist, Mr Ashken. However, the operation had not been very successful in terms of relieving his urinary obstruction. So, he was discharged home with the catheter in place. Mr Ashken had explained to mum that the catheter would be in place for three weeks initially.
Mum’s Work
Mum worked all day. Two weeks earlier, she had started a new job as part-time medical secretary for the private practice of two surgeons, Mr Ashken and Mr Stephens, see Chapter 121. This practice was based at 41 Newmarket Road. She worked all day on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and half day on Fridays. She noted that she enjoyed working with Mr Ashken (Mr A) again.
Coeliac Meeting
Mum was active in the Coeliac Society both locally and nationally, see Chapter 116. On this occasion, there was a meeting at night. This inovled sorting stamps presumably as a fundraising initiative. Mum noted that about 20 people came.
Tricia Went on the Broads with Rangers
P refers to my older sister Tricia (Patricia). She was part of Rangers and, on this occasion, went to the Broads with them, see Chapter 122.
