Notes

Grandma and Auntie Dolly Went to a Circuit Meeting in Wymondham

E refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. D refers to Dorothy Rose who we knew as Auntie Dolly although she was my grandmother’s first cousin. Grandma’s father (Charles Cirket) and Auntie Dolly’s mother (Lois Rose née Cirket) were siblings. Auntie Dolly visited grandma and grandad often coming by bus from where she lived in Bedford to Norwich bus station, see Chapter 122. She had arrived on the 2nd.

Grandma and Auntie Dolly went by bus to a Methodist circuit meeting in Wymondham, see Chapter 124. Grandad mis-spelled Wymondham as “Wymondam“.

Rose Elsegood Led the Drayton Ladies’ Meeting (DLM)

DLM refers to Drayton Ladies’ Meeting which was a weekly women’s meeting held at Drayton Methodist Church. I believe grandma usually led such meetings but, on this occasion, she was away at the circuit meeting in Wymondham. So, her friend, Rose Elsegood stepped in to lead the meting, see Chapter 124.

Mum Worked for Rev G T Eddy

GTE stands for Rev G T Eddy who was the Chairman of the Methodist District. Based on her CV, see Chapter 105, mum did some part-time secretarial work for him between 1973 and 1977, see Chapter 121. Mum noted that she went there in the a.m., that is in the morning.

I Went to Dad’s

Roger refers to me and Roy refers to my father, Royle Drew. At this point, he was living in London, see Chapter 114.

St Peter’s Guild Met at the Cookes’

Guild refers to St Peter’s Guild, a fellowship group based at St Peter’s Park Lane Methodist Church, see Chapter 124. The group met at different people’s houses in rotation. On this occasion, they went to the home of Gerald and Thelma Cooke. Mum noted that this was “very nice
