Ethel refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. DLM stands for Drayton Ladies’ Meeting which was a weekly women’s meeting held at Drayton Methodist Church, see Chapter 107.
Grandad had had “waterworks” trouble since at least 1970 culminating in surgery in January 1974. However, the symptoms gradually recurred and, by October 1974, he was getting up nine or ten times per night, see Chapter 100.
