Grandad was unwell at this time having had a stroke in early April, see Chapter 100. Based on handwriting, I think grandma mainly kept his diary for him between 24 April and 27 August. Mostly, she used grandad’s voice. She referred to herself in the third person and grandad in the first person.
The Royal Show refers to the Royal Norfolk Show. When I was a child, we attended this most years, see Chapter 106. I recollect lots of different stalls or stands and mum was sometimes involved in a large refreshments tent run by churches. I also recall there was a large central display ground and I recall seeing motorcycle display teams and horseriding displays there. As we were not from an agricultural background, I think some of those aspects of the show were lost on me but I liked seeing the animals, tractors etc.
