Arthur brought back the valve for my radio (Farranti) after replacing it, the set would not work, so I gave him all the valves (5) & pulled the set to bits. Ethel went to DLM.

Arthur refers to grandad’s friend Arthur Elsegood. I assume this was a Ferranti radio and Arthur was trying to get it to work. This incident is noted in a little more detail in Chapter 109.
Ethel refers to my grandma, Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. DLM refers to Drayton Ladies’ Meeting of Drayton Methodist Church, see Chapter 107.
