I repaired a puntcher in Alan’s bike, finished raking the back lawn. Ethel mowed 1/2 of it with the roto mower.

Alan refers to my brother, Alan Drew. Grandad did quite a lot of repairs and maintenance on our bikes, see Chapter 109.
Ethel refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. Grandma and grandad had large lawns at both the front and back of their house. These were surrounded by pine trees. Mowing the lawns was quite a big undertaking, not least because they first had to be raked to remove pine cones and needles, see Chapter 109.
