Ethel went to DLM. Arthur came in the morning & helped me put the gloss paint on the B table. Weather very cold. Sheila flitted.

Ethel refers to my grandmother Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. DLM refers to Drayton Ladies’ Meeting, a women’s meeting based at Drayton Methodist Church, see Chapter 107.

Arthur refers to Arthur Elsegood, grandad’s friend who often helped him with practical tasks. B table refers to a bird table that grandad made between August and October 1973, see Chapter 109.

Sheila refers to my mother Sheila May Drew nee Parkin. “Flitted” is the term grandad used for moving house. This refers to when we moved from Waverley Road to College Road, see Chapter 102.
