Tom, Amy & Ethel went to Gorlstone, I gather the cones off the lawn.
Ethel refers to grandma Ethel May Cecilia Parkin. Tom & Amy refers to Tom and Amy Wilson. They were friends of grandma’s and grandad’s who visited them frequently from Mansfield, see Chapter 106. We knew them as children as Uncle Tom and Auntie Amy. Gorlstone refers to Gorleston.
Grandma and grandad had large lawns at the front and back of their house. These lawns were surrounded by pine trees. So, prior to cutting the grass, they needed to be cleared of cones and needles, see Chapter 109.
