Ethel went to DLM. Ethel went to vote in the village hall for the new Rural District Council called Broadlan instead of Aylsham & St Faiths. I went with Ron about 17.50 also to vote (both of us). Weather still warm & sunny.

Ethel refers to my grandma, Ethel May Cecilia Parkin.

DLM refers to Drayton Ladies’ Meeting which was based at Drayton Methodist Church, see Chapter 107.

For details of elections to the new Broadland Rural District Council and the background to its formation, see Chapter 112.

Ron refers to Ron Douglas, grandma and grandad’s next-door neighbour, who lived at 168 Drayton High Road.
